Always looking for light

About Low Red

I am a passionate and dedicated photographer whose love for the art of photography drives every image I create. For me, photography is not just about capturing a moment – it’s about capturing light. I often describe my artistic journey as “looking for light”, with each shot carefully considered for how illumination, shadows, and atmosphere shape the scene.

My work spans a variety of genres, from striking landscapes and cityscapes to creative abstract compositions and intimate street photography. Whatever the subject, I combine a keen artistic vision with technical mastery, a commitment recognised by my status as a Licentiate of The Royal Photographic Society (RPS).

Influences and Style

My favourite genre is black and white street photography and photojournalism, where the interplay of light and shadow creates compelling, timeless images. I draw inspiration from the masters, including Vivian Maier, Brassai, Bert Hardy, Bill Brandt and Ansel Adams, and pioneering photojournalists Robert Doisneau and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Their work has shaped my understanding of composition, timing, and the narrative potential of a single frame.

Across all my work, I demonstrate a natural eye for capturing moments that matter. This makes me particularly strong in reportage-style photography, including street and music photography, where authenticity, timing and story are key.

Approach and Philosophy

Passion and precision define my approach. I am a perfectionist with my own work, carefully refining each image to ensure it meets my high standards of quality and impact. At the same time, I balance technical expertise with creativity, allowing my work to remain fresh, expressive, and emotionally engaging.

For me, great photography is not just about technique – it’s about emotion, light, and storytelling. Every project, whether a commissioned piece, a personal creative exploration, or a candid street scene, is an opportunity to capture beauty, evoke feeling, and share a unique perspective with the viewer.
